What is eLearning?
To define or describe eLearning, it is best to first define learning. Learning is the act of developing skills or obtaining knowledge. So eLearning just means that you develop skills and obtain knowledge using electronic means, hence the "e" in "e-Learning!"

You may have heard terms such as distance learning, distance education, online learning, or a variety of other terms used to describe methods of learning outside the traditional classroom-based method.

Distance learning refers to any education that is conducted outside of a traditional classroom setting. Generally speaking, distance learning follows one of two models: the correspondence course or the online course.

Correspondence course students receive and submit their class materials physically, through postal delivery. Online students receive their materials electronically, via the Internet.

How much time can e-Learning save?
According to the made researches, e-learning can save professor’s time by 50% or more. E-Learning also help to save your travel time (80% or more).

Why e-Learning has become a popular method of teaching and learning?
Online learning has become the most common and popular delivery method of distance learning because the majority of colleges and universities offering distance learning courses or degrees use e-mail, the Internet, and related technologies to:
  • Facilitate the learning process
  • Communicate with students
  • Promote the accessibility of educational programs
  • Provide and distribute information using multimedia

How do people interact and communicate in online courses?
In a traditional class setting, the instructor provides feedback to students vocally, with body language, or writing on a whiteboard or chalkboard. Students comment or ask questions, interact with others in verbal discussions, collaborate with small groups, and may give presentations.

Similar forms of interaction and collaboration exist in online courses, with a few substantial differences.

e-learning helps organizations to carry out training courses for all the employees quickly and easily.

What is Accessibility?
Accessibility gives the possibility to learn at geographically large distance from your personal instructor. It enables more users to participate in the training program.

Personalization is when users adhere to their individual learning pace that suits only them.

What is Blended Learning?
Blended learning means that two or more various training methods are used to provide users with a wide range of learning experiences. Blended learning most often refers to courses that include both self-directed e-learning and Instructor-Led Training but blended learning may also involve other forms of training such as synchronized e-learning, on-the-job training or e-tutoring.

What is Online Training?
Online Training is eLearning provided via the Internet. It may also be referred to Web-Based Training (WBT).

What is Learning Management System (LMS)?
LMS is a special system that makes automatic great variety of tasks such as organization, delivery, documentation and tracking training. LMS may be applied to administer employee training as well as training of external stakeholders such as clients, members, suppliers or other business partners.

What is a Learning Content Management System (LCMS)?
A learning content management system’s objective is to simplify the creation and administration of the online content used in e-learning. It is capable of managing the storage, indexing and retrieval of tens of thousands of learning objects that can be constantly re-used and re-purposed within numerous courses.

What is Automated Testing Software (ATS)?
The Automated Testing Software (ATS) for ICDL is a unique assessment tool to measure the competency of a candidate based on the European Computer Driving License (ECDL) / International Computer Driving License (ICDL) manual question and test base (MQTB).

What is e-Assessment?
e-Assessment is defined as the end-to-end electronic assessment processes where ICT is used for the presentation of assessment activity and the recording of responses. This includes the end-to-end assessment process from the perspective of learners, tutors, learning establishments, awarding bodies and regulators, and the general public.

What is Diagnostic Assessment?
Diagnostic assessment (also known as pre-assessments) occurs at the beginning of the teaching/learning cycle. This type of assessment will provide the instructor with an understanding of the prior knowledge and skills a student brings to a unit, as well as the strengths and specific learning needs of an individual or groups of students in relation to the expectations that will be taught.

What is Formative Assessment?
Formative Assessment is part of the instructional process. it provides the information needed to adjust teaching and learning while they are happening. Formative assessment refers to all those activities undertaken by instructor, and by the students in assessing themselves, which provide information to be used as feedback to modify the teaching and learning activities in which they are engaged.

What is Summative Assessment?
Summative Assessment is the formal testing of what has been learned in order to produce marks or grades which may be used for reports of various types. This is different from Formative Assessment, in which the emphasis is on ongoing assessments of different types used to judge how best to help people to learn further.

What is ePortfolio?
ePortfolio have been used in a number of ways to support assessment. ePortfolio act as digital evidence to provide both evidence of a person’s learning and the individual’s reflection of his/her own work/learning. It is a record of learning, growth and change; and it provides meaningful documentation of individual abilities.

What is Asynchronous e-Learning?
A self-directed e-learning event which permits users to take part in it according to their plan and to move from one exercise to another at their own pace. What is Synchronous Learning? An e-learning event where cooperation happens at the same time in real-time. It demands that users attend the event at particular time.

What is Computer-Based Training (CBT)?
e-Learning that is provided via CD, DVD or specific workstations.

What is Web-Based Training (WBT)?
Web-Based Training (WBT) eLearning is provided via the Internet. It may also be considered as online training.

What is Immersive Learning Simulations (ILS)?
Immersive Learning Simulations or ILS are simulators that are used to assist learners to figure out some complex concepts and processes. Immersive Learning Simulations may also be referred to both learning and serious games.

What is Instructor-Led Training (ILT)?
Instructor-Led Training (ILT) - A learning event organized by an instructor. It is usually referred to training held at a particular location but may also be applied to make description of synchronous e-learning events.

What is Job Aid?
Job Aid is any reference information that gives learners critical data that can not be easily remembered. Job aids give users the opportunity to access quickly to information such as procedures, specifications and product codes.

What is Learning Games?
Learning games are entertaining tools that are applied to assist users to understand better complex processes and ideas. Learning games are sometimes referred to serious games or Immersive Learning Simulations (ILS).

What is SCORM?
Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) is a special form of packaging and marking e-learning elements in a way that they can connect with Learning Management Systems and be used as building blocks in a vast number of courses. SCORM comprises a number of specifications that resulted from the Department of Defense's Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) initiative.

What is Subject Matter Expert (SME)?
Subject Matter Expert (SME) is an expert in the specific topic of the course.

ELCC National Lifelong Learning (LLL) Portal was developed to act as the hub of lifelong e-Learning in Egypt. It is the entry point for all individuals and entities seeking e-Learning and LLL opportunities in different disciplines.

Lifelong learning is the activity of seeking out new knowledge or developing a skill, and participating in educational activities over the course of a person’s entire life.

Through ELCC Search Engine, a search capability, which indexes enterprise content from multiple storage systems and allows users to browse and retrieve content based on selection criteria.

Can I know about ELCC events through this website?
The Portal’s Calendar of Events and Press Center contain up-to-date info about the latest national, regional and international events and activities in the e-Learning/LLL fields.

What is ELCC’s e-Learning Library?
ELCC’s e-Learning Library provides open and free access to a wide range of e-Learning material, documents and reports in different disciplines.

Can I send my resume to join a suitable e-learning job?
The portal offers career services at the e-Learning field in Egypt through its Career Center.

Can I get a support through this website?
Users can get support through “Using elcc.gov.eg” and “Frequently Asked Questions” to offer user support on how to use the portal or specific features.

What are the Collaboration Platforms that ELCC LLL portal can support? LLL portal can support Collaborative tools such as Learning Management Systems (LMS)s, discussion forums, document sharing, virtual and video conferencing and Web 2.0 applications like the Facebook and Twitter.
ELCC National Delivery Network (NDN)
What is ELCC’s National Delivery Network (NDN)?
The ELCC has created a nationwide delivery network through implementing a scalable plan to leverage and optimize the use of IT clubs all over the nation to act as outlets for the delivery of web-based content, online assessment, student performance tracking, hands-on labs, instructor training, support and preparation for industry standard certifications.

What is the underlying strategy of ELCC’s National Delivery Network?
The underlying strategy of ELCC’s NDN is to leverage IT clubs in high schools, technical schools, colleges, universities and community-based organizations and maximize value through making the most efficient use of them.

What is the total number of e-Learning delivery centers affiliated to ELCC’s NDN?
To date, the center has established around 700 local academies across the country where over 60,000 students, instructors and administrators have participated in the program.

  • Training of Trainers (ToT) - prepare instructors to facilitate the blended learning programs and provide them with the necessary IT and e-Learning management skills to manage their e-Learning classrooms.
  • Provide managers and administrators of NGOs with the business model and training them on how to operate and administer the e-Learning programs and guarantee sustainability.
  • Provide content and e-Learning support technology (LMS, Media Platforms).
  • Certify the e-Learning delivery channels.
  • Deploy a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) mechanism for performance monitoring and quality assurance.
